Listen weekdays 10a to 3p for the world’s best classical music as presented by Peter Whorf. Whorf, who holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, has a distinguished career in classical music broadcasting, holding management and on-air host positions at WKAR-FM/East Lansing; WFMT-FM/Chicago; WBEZ-FM/Chicago; and for radio stations in New York City and Colombia, MO. Peter is a Detroit native and longtime radio listeners may remember his father, Mike Whorf, who hosted the popular Kaleidoscope program on WJR-AM in the 1960s and 1970s.
After lessoning to you for many weeks on
WRCJ, I did not realize until today that Mike Whorf was your father. As a minority, I had the good fortune of meet your father back in the late 60’s, during his WJR days. I have always remembered that life-lesson experience. My impression of your father was that off a warm, caring, and compassionate person, with a deep interest in social and community issues.
I truly enjoy lessoning to you in the morning. Please continue with a great legacy.
Thank you Inez for sharing your kind recollections.
Peter Whorf’s fascinating verbal “program notes” are excellent, as is his smooth and calm on-air delivery!
Thanks Robert. Nice picture!
I’m enjoying listening to Peter so much! I tune in every day while at work & he’s a great companion. Thanks!
Thank you Dixie, we are happy to hear that!
Welcome?!? I know you from listening to WKAR! According to the write-up you will be on the road less. I catch both stations, but WKAR is stronger in my north Oakland county home. Keep the classical coming!
Thank you Lois. Good for you for adding a picture. Very fancy.
Welcome to WRCJ. I fell in love with classical music listening to WKAR.
Thanks Gary! That is also a fine station.
“The show is going on” with Peter Whorf and Chris Feltcyn would love it. I love your programs and all of the hosts and substitute hosts. Each one brings his own personality and individual knowledge to each segment. At 84 years of age I can tell you I’ve listened to this station for at lease 50 years
maybe more, I know I listened when my children were toddlers in the 50’s and 60’s and ever
since . My radio is turned on to your station each morning and stays on all day and into the
evening. Thank you for the “music” and the “education”.
Hello Carol, thank you for letting us be your daily companion. It’s great that you enjoy the show all day and night including our newest addition Peter Whorf! Thank you for the message.
I , along with the others, welcome Mr. Whorf to WRCJ. Chris Felcyn was such a fixture at the station that it was a real shock when he left us. His style was informal, chatty and one that made you feel as if he were chatting informally with you alone in your home. We all got used to that.C Sharp as she called herself was a bit like that too. So , just be yourself, relax , chat away and welcome to the WRCJ family! P.S. As a member of a chamber series, the Vivace Chamber series, we will be asking you or Dave Wagner to interview one of our upcoming soloists the air before their scheduled concerts. Chris was always so helpful with that!
Thank you for Michael, for welcoming Peter. He is a good fit for the station.
My wife and I are really enjoying listening to Peter Whorf and his commentary. We are learning new things each day. This was a great addition to the rest of the great staff. Thank you.
Lawrence and Stephanie Campbell
Thank you Lawrence & Stephanie!
Love the new midday with Peter. Wonderful voice and great selections, too.
Still wake up to Dave every morning. Keep up the good work.
That’s what we like to hear, thank you Linda.
Peter,
Welcome to WRCJ. I am thrilled that you have joined the station.
I have been a longtime fan of your father’s show, Kaleidoscope, and look forward to the programming that you will be creating.
I also know that a certain Polish angel (aka Chris) is looking out for you.
Jan Feldmann
Waterford
Thank you Jan, we like the idea of “Polish Angel”.
Mr. Whorf,
Welcome home! Enjoying your show from El Paso, TX.
That’s a long ways away, thanks Warren!
Wonderful choice! So glad to have another Whorf on the air! So far the first show has been delightful.
Oh a local musician, awesome!
Welcome Peter,
Remember Dave give us all the organ music lol….
Looking forward to your long tenure…
So much organ music.
A warm welcome to Mr. Whorf! Mr. Felcyn left behind big, unique shoes to fill, but I have no doubt Mr. Whorf will do well here, and I look forward to getting to know him as the new midday host. Thanks for bringing him aboard, WRCJ!
Thank you Tamara, for coming along with us.
What wonderful news that Peter Whorf is joining WRCJ-FM, and in doing so is carrying on the legacy of his father, Mike Whorf on WJR-AM. I have many comforting memories of listening to your Dad’s Kaliedoscope program from 12-2pm on Sunday afternoons so, so many years ago. I’m sure I’ll find the same in listening to you on WRCJ-FM.
We think so too Bernadette.
Will we be hearing more of Carl Grapentine, too?
Hello Ted, Carl is taking a little break for now but he may do some substitute hosting in the future. Never say never!
Here’s hoping!
Loved your question. Happy to read CG may fill in from time to time.
Looking forward to listening to another Whorf on the Detroit airwaves! Had the opportunity to work with Dad Mike years ago at WSU and the Michigan State Fair. Always marveled at his knowledge of music and that magnificent voice. It’s wonderful that the family legacy continues and what better place to do it then at WRCJ. Welcome Peter.
Yes, the Whorf family legacy continues! Thank you Grant.
Well said! I go back to Kaleidoscope days myself. Welcome aboard, Peter.
Welcome to WRCJ, Mr. Whorf. It is good to have someone with a Detroit heritage on the classical air wave which was lost prior to 2005. I loved your father Mike’s rich stories on WJR!
Your background in the broadcasting field is amazing! Looking forward to your full time work with the mid day program.
Thank you Russ, Peter was a nice catch for us.
I am elated over this selection. Thanks to WRCJ management for keeping up the highest of standards in broadcast excellence. I look forward to hearing Peter and the colorful insights he will bring to the music. Welcome to the 90.9 airwaves, Peter. You are a gift to this audience!
Well thank you Karl, we try. Peter will be a fine addition!
Welcome to WRCJ, Peter. I remember hearing your father on WJR and look forward to listening to you. Glad you are back in Detroit. You have a great team to work with.
Wow !!! Good things DO come to those who wait !!! Welcome !!!
Excellent choice, indeed – with a super legacy. Look forward to his broadcasts.
Thank you Ronald!
Excellent choice. I look forward to having a Whorf back on air in Detroit. My parents’ principal radio station was WJR and I remember hearing Mike’s show growing up. Welcome, Peter!
Thank you David, we think our listeners will enjoy him.
