Fridays, 7p to 11p, don’t miss Maxology with Maxine Michaels for a cool mix of classic and contemporary jazz with an emphasis on female artists and musicians from the Motor City. Count on WRCJ to keep you connected with jazz events in greater Detroit.
Maxine’s show last friday the 4th
Still trying to find the song she played around 830ish, it wasnt “Lush Life” this was a real swinging song with a heavy drum beat and clarinet
Have you eve heard a song and said “I’ve got to know who that is?” This is one of those times!
Is there a way to listen to that show again, or could someone put together the songs she played from 8pm -9pm on Febuary 4th 2022
I really do appreciate the help and loved her show……moved from Los Angeles (long story) so I’m finding my way here and glad I found Maxine

Maxine says: “Tom, I am determined because you are determined…the heavy drum beat was a great clue. Let’s try this https://youtu.be/hM2iW0RtEFI
Thanks for listening”
Tell Maxine she is a doll, that is the one! Played it 3 times on the way into work today in this snowy mess….probably had me driving faster than I should have!
I’ll be tuning in tonight to hear her show
Thank you very much
Tom
Glad we found the right one. Enjoy tonight!
I need to know the song that was playing tonight at 8:33-834pm Friday night on Maxine’s show, was mind blowing…..had some clarinet in it, instrumental…..

Hi Tom, Maxine said that was “Lush Life” by John Coltrane & Friends… and warm thanks for listening.
That’s good but it’s not the same song, it was Friday the 4th around 832-836 or so. Maybe send me what was played from 8-9pm and I can figure it out, it was a real rocking upbeat song, I remember a lot of drum and I think clarinet
Appreciate the help!

Duke in high fashion,
with white cotton gloves on,
Miles in modal,
with Dorian codas,
Coltrane harmonics,
with phrasing exquisite,
These are few of Max’ favorite things.
Baker and Ela and Sarah and Betty,
Songbird resplendent yet scatting aplenty,
Syncopation Brubeckian,
with melodic ardor,
Evocation of Shorter,
with rhythm precision,
These are the tunes of Maxology.
When the jab stings,
When the mask clings,
When alone and sad,
I simply remember Max’s favorite things,
and then I can’t feel so bad.
Hey, that’s pretty good Rodger! Will you feature this when caroling this year?
Yes, on demand on Zoom or on your local/universal media of choice. You all know what I am talking about.
Thanks for playing the live “My Favorite Things”. Totally epic.
You’re welcome listener!
