Chamber Music at the Scarab Club is thrilled to present the second concert of its 27th season! This unique program features strings, trumpet and piano performing music by Gustav Mahler, Robert Fuchs, Felix Dessof, Eugene Bozza, Erkki Melartin and Eric Ewazen. The concert is Sunday, Nov. 16th, from 4-6 p.m. at Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church (17150 Maumee, Grosse Pointe).
The audience will enjoy an intriguing mix of music, featuring works by familiar composers as well as those whose compositions are rarely performed. The program is based on the idea of legacy: Dessoff taught Fuchs, Fuchs taught Mahler and Sibelius, and Melartin was strongly influenced and inspired by SIbelius’ compositions. Many composers throughout history were also highly sought-after teachers. Eric Ewazen also taught and passed on his inspiration.
The performers for this wonderful program include Joshua Marzan – piano, and Detroit Opera Orchestra members Andrew Wu – violin, Jacqueline Hanson – viola and David Ammer – trumpet. These outstanding musicians also regularly perform with many other ensembles in the area. The joy of playing chamber music with their colleagues is something they all relish.
As always, each piece will be introduced by one of the musicians.
