The Detroit Medical Orchestra (DMO) is a non-profit organization that exists to explore the connections between music and healing, foster partnerships among medical and health professionals, and provide community services and community arts services to improve the quality of life for all in the Detroit community.

On the program are two new classical pieces: the World Premiere of “An Ode to Asclepius, God of Medicine & Healing” by Danish Ali that draws inspiration from the Ancient Greek deity associated with medicine; “A Million Suns at Midnight” by Connor Cowart portrays the journey thru the night from sunset, the beauty of twilight, the quiet mystery of darkness and the gradual awakening of sunrise; followed by selections from “Les Misérables”.

On the second half of the program brings Gustav Holst’s mighty “The Planets”. Rather than portraying the planets as physical objects in space, Holst focused on the emotional qualities of the planets such as conflict (Mars), peace (Venus), communication (Mercury), joy (Jupiter), aging (Saturn), magic (Uranus) and mystery (Neptune).

The Detroit Medical Orchestra is grateful to all those who make our concerts possible. As a non-profit organization, we rely on audience donations, and suggest an amount of $10 per non-student adult to help cover operating costs. Please consider giving a donation of support so we can continue our mission of “bringing healing thru music”.
