Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble
‘Spring Concert’

The Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble (SEMWE) will present its ’Spring Concert’ on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Clarkston Junior High School Performing Arts Center, 6595 Middle Lake Rd. Clarkston, 49346. The concert is open to the public and admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Conducted by Mr. Cliff Chapman, selections on this program will include “Rocky Point Holiday” by Ron Nelson, Sousa’s “Wolverine March”, “Mackinac Suite” conducted by composer Andrew David Perkins, “Bright Shadow Fanfare” by Nicole Piunno, conducted by SEMWE Board Member Mike Lewis, “Halcyon Hearts” by Katahj Copley, “British Eighth March” by Zo Elliott , conducted by SEMWE Board Member Paul DeRubeis, and Excerpts from “Far and Away” by John Williams.

This concert will feature the Cass Quartet (SEMWE members Eric Crimmins, Alan Posner, Matt Harris, and Tim Folmar) performing “Aurum Tetra” Concerto for Saxophone Quartet by Benjamin Taylor, conducted by Dr. Gregory Cunningham, Director of Bands, Professor of Music, and Instrumental Music Program Coordinator at Oakland University.

We are also excited to feature soloist and SEMWE member Alex Sellers, Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Oakland University performing “Rush” Concerto for Alto Saxophone by Kenneth Fuchs.

About the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble
The Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble includes musicians from area public or private schools, band educators, professors at local universities and freelance performers. Founded by Eric Crimmins, Retired Music Director at Lake Orion Scripps Middle School, SEMWE performs high-quality community concerts in a series of 3 cycles per year.
The mission of SEMWE is to provide a performance outlet for music educators and other accomplished musicians, to educate and share music with the local community and to promote wind and percussion literature as a form of communication and cultural enrichment. SEMWE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
About the Conductor and Music Director
The Conductor and Music Director of the Southeast Michigan Wind Ensemble is Cliff Chapman. With a career as an educator, conductor, adjudicator, consultant, and clinician, he has a wide range of experience and perspective from which to draw regarding lifelong music engagement and service.

Mr. Chapman has served on the faculties of Wayne State University Department of Music and College of Education, Eastern Michigan University Department of Music, and Clarkston Community Schools as Director of Instrumental Music and Fine Performing Arts Coordinator. Professional services include State and District Presidencies of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, Michigan State Chair of the American School Band Directors Association, and Michigan State Chair of the National Band Association, and President of the Michigan Competing Band Association. Recently, Mr. Chapman has been elected to the National Executive Board of the Association of Concert Bands, beginning May 2023.
