I followed Dave’s suggestion and just looked up Elise Hall’s photo in her regalia – awesome!
Thanks for the interesting information about the musicians and pieces that you all share.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you Jason, we try not to talk too much but still give those interesting tidbits and related info that listeners might enjoy.
Dave,
Did any President or Pope ever attend a meeting of the Society for Apprehending Horse Thieves? Did they even know they had been honored with a membership? Or is this Society a code name for something else? Ha!
Thanks for all these interesting tidbits about composers and music.
MAV
Thank you Mary Ann, Dr. Dave has all the trivia you’d otherwise never know. Or want.
It sounds very funny, but horse thieving was considered a serious crime and if you were caught stealing horses you were executed. I had an ancestor who was convicted of horse thieving and hung. After his death he was exonerated, so the town erected a statue in his honor with an inscription that read “Here lies Hans Waldmann who was not a horse thief. It was explained to me that horses were very valuable, and having even one horse could greatly improve your ability to work the land and become well off.
That poor man. We’ll at least he got a statue and exonerated. Very interesting, thanks for sharing Rita!
The radio signal this morning 6/8/21, seems to have regular “gaps” every minute or two, the audio drops for a half a second, and then continues.
Hi Chris, we will see what’s going on…
Is workerb a pseudonym ever used by someone famous? e.g. Dr. Dave?
No, no one famous, just one of the many busy little bees behind the scenes who help keep the station going. There’s also WorkerA, WorkerC, WorkerD…
Hello from Arizona.
Love this station, both classical and jazz.
Hi Bill, we appreciate you listening, especially all the way from Arizona!
Just have to tell you how much I am loving your play list today!! Helping me keep working! Thank you!
Oh thank you Chris, keep up the good work!
My children were listening to the broadcast yesterday and telling me, very excitedly, about the lovely works regarding King Arthur. They want to listen again but we do not know the names of the pieces that were played. Could you help out my nine and ten year old girls who are frequent listeners? Thanks!
Hi Lauren, we didn’t see any King Arthur music on the playlist at first look, do you recall which program or what time of day that was?
STAN THE MAN !!! THANK YOU ‘SWING SET”, !!! I WAS BORN IN THE MID- 50’S, BHT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GREAT MUSIC.
Thank you Jerry, it is pretty great!
Really enjoy listening to WRCJ.
Do not understand why metadata is not available on weekend FM radio broadcast? Miss this information a lot, as a relatively new listener of the classics.
Hello Gerald, sorry about that, we have the info entered for just about all our weekday classical but we’re still working on our special weekend programs and jazz. It’s a work in progress…
hello…
i’m a faithful fan and listener… thank you for hours and years of enjoyment!
whatever happened to birdnote? 🙁 … it was one of the things i loved best… often switching on to catch it in the nick of time (“oo, it’s noon!”)…
Hi Melissa, we haven’t been playing it while the hosts are broadcasting remotely, because it’s a bit more complicated. Perhaps once we get closer to normal life it can return. Thanks for listening.
What happened to the outcue (Bach?) that used to play around Dave Wagner’s 7pm sign-off? As corny as it seems, I would actually try to tune in just to catch it; something about a handle on the passage of time. Was this year so disruptive as to even end that?
Well, sadly yes. It used to be so easy to cue up the piece and play it out as Dr. Dave ended his show, but most days he broadcasts remotely and his equipment at home is different. We could maybe go about it a different way… little did we know listeners liked that part so much! It is perhaps familiar, a daily reminder that it’s 7pm. Thanks for letting us know JD.
On Thursday morning, 4/29 Carl Grapentine played: “Eternally” : The Terry Theme from ‘Limelight’ (for trombone and piano) BIS:808 by Charlie Chaplin.
AMAZING how much the Justin Hurwitz theme music from La La Land was inspired from this piece!
Thanks for filling in, Carl.
Sure Chris, we do our best to give you great music and some info behind it.
filthy mcnasty is an abzolute classic!
Looking for doggy tunes for the cinema segment? Is there a good theme on “Lady and the Tramp”?
Working late, and Safari was a great pick-me-up. Thank you.
Glad to hear it Tina!
Thank for being in a constant in our lives.
Today you played the Teddy Bear’s Picnic…a part of my childhood. I remembered all the verses and it felt so good to reminisce about dancing around the record player as we wore out the 33rpm.
We listen to you every morning as we do our exercises. Gotta keep these old bones moving.
I have been rising to Sousa’s marches and Dave’s comments on WQRS since grade school mornings. Now my daughter, teaching in Tunisia, Africa can stream the music of home, too, while moving through her afternoons.
May WRCJ and their Transmitter go on for many generations.
It’s nice to hear you enjoyed that piece. Thank you for playing us during your exercises, maybe we’ll lose some weight too! You’re daughter is quite far away, but it sounds like she is doing good work. We also hope to be around for many more generations, thanks for listening.
Hello,
I just made a donation & wanted to write a comment about how much this station has meant to me & my family during the pandemic. My father & I would listen to the same amazing music together while he was in lock-up during the beginning of the pandemic. I loved being able to call him, have him turn his Alexa to WRCJ & we would share the Gershwin, Copland, Bach, the Sunday Swing set, Wind & Rhythm, Michigan made music and so much more. One time in the car, we even heard some of Ken Burn’s Civil war sound track together. It is now harder to listen to it without a few tears. but it has been a saving Grace & built lasting memories for me. Many, many thanks!
Amy O’Rourke
Thank you for sharing that Amy, that is very touching. We appreciate your donation.
I live in Wisconsin. When I want to feel closer to my mom in the moment I turn on https://www.wrcjfm.org
I know that day or night, the Classical Days and Jazzy nights are turned on at my mom’s house, upstairs and downstairs. She often has it playing quietly overnight, the radio light glowing on the nightstand while she sleeps.
Oh that’s nice. We appreciate you and your mother tuning in and thank you for sharing that.
I support WRCJ and now I listen to the station at work all day long. It provides me with a relaxing and yet invigorating environment. Who wouldn’t want to support this wonderful station that keeps classical and jazz; both worldwide and national, alive! Thank you WRCJ!
Thank you Cynthia, that’s so nice! We are grateful for your support.
Leontyne Price’s “Summertime” was stunningly warm on a cold February afternoon. Happy Birthday to her.
Thank you Alison, hopefully summer will arrive sooner rather than later.
Why isn’t the 5-6AM program listed on your program list?
Hello listener, you can find Exploring Music at the top of our schedule page with a link to the website with all the info you might need: https://www.wrcjfm.org/playlists-schedule/
One of the few stations worth a darn Detroit! Thank you so much for all that you bring into my car, and my home.
Thank you Donald, we are happy to be there.
On Saturday 2/6, sometime between 7-7:30pm you played a version of Baby, It’s Cold Outside. I didn’t catch the name of the vocalist though…
Hi Katie, that was performed by Ray Charles and Betty Carter. Thanks for tuning in!
It’s “Live Long and Prosper”
Hello, could I get the name of the song that was playing at 9:55 PM tonight? It was pretty sweet and had some great solos
Hi Austin, we will check with Maxine…
Awesome song playing 12:30pm on January 18th. What song is it? Thank you!
Hi Meghan, around that time was the Harlem Symphony by James Price Johnson performed by Concordia and conducted by Marin Alsop from a MusicMasters CD, spine number 67140.
At around 8:30pm there was a song playing that was a jazz version of the song “The little things you do together” by Steven sondheim, and shazam couldn’t seem to pick it up. I was wondering who’s cover is it? Is it a michigan artist? It was really great
Hi Ana, yes that was a medley of “Merrily We Roll Along/Comedy Tonight/The Little Things You Do Together” performed by Jackie Cain & Roy Kral from “A Stephen Sondheim Collection”. Thanks for listening.
hilarious turkish march for power tools@
Thanks Doris. We got some work done around the studio too!
May I get the name of the piece that was playing at 9:03 am today (Sun Dec 27). It was beautiful! Thank you for playing such amazing music 🎶
Hi Kris, thanks for listening. Here are the pieces from around that time:
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring BWV147, Simone Dinnerstein – piano, Sony 81742, BACH: A STRANGE BEAUTY
Christoph Graupner (1683-1760), Cantata for Third Day of Christmas: concluding aria (allegro), Les Idees Heureuses (Happy Ideas), Genevieve Soly, Analekta AN2 9115, CHRISTMAS IN DARMSTADT INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL MUSIC, VOL.3

Maxine,
Thank you for the great jams on Christimas night.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Merry Christmas!
loved the yodelingbeethoven song! Thanks for a great laugh.
No problem Doris, good to hear you enjoyed it!
I thought it was yesterday or perhaps Tues. around noon this week that you played a piece featuring Pavarotti. Dan’t seem to find it on playlist unless its a piece that didn’t mention Luciano’s name. It was a sad piece as announcer said after it ended, “Now onto something more cheerfu.
l” If you remember it could you please give me the name of the album.
Hi Judith, yes that was the Concert Aria: “In questa tomba oscura”, WoO 133 by Beethoven featuring Luciano Pavarotti with the Pierino Philharmonia Orchestra under Piero Gamba. Here is the CD: https://www.amazon.com/Mattinata-Luciano-Pavarotti-Philharmonia-Orchestra/dp/B000Y96WFY
Great music and love your station! Yesterday you played a song with Phyllis Hyman at around 7:30pm. Can you share the name of the song? My 15 year old loved it!!! Would like to find it for Christmas for her☺️
Sure did play Phyliss Hyman with pianist McCoy Tyner…. Phyllis Hyman – In Search of My Heart – Remember Me: https://youtu.be/lFz4VdV2FEs
WOW! Pipedreams Beethoven!!! Loved It!!!
Thanks listener! We thought it might be popular.
Wow, appreciate your comments….
You know I love you guys and will probably never switch but it’s the day after Thanksgiving and it’s 736 am and I’m missing the Souza Alarm! Kinda gotten used to it. Really gets me and my daughter going in the morning.
Hello Colleen, sorry about that, we gave our regular broadcast team the day after Thanksgiving off. The Sousalarm will return today!
Are there plans to add track metadata to the stream? I don’t use TuneIn so I am unsure if it is on there.
Having the band name and the track title would be great if I am unable to write down what the host reads off.
Hi Dylan, Which way are you listening to us? If you do it through our website the song info shows up in the pop-up window.
I usually listen to the stream through my music player on my computer or through a radio app on my phone.
The metadata that shows up is usually, “Non-music: ProgramTitle” where “ProgramTitle” is something like Jazzfest Detroit or Maxology, but never the track or band.
Oh ok, with JazzFest and Maxology the hosts are playing music off their CDs, not playing from our computer system so the info isn’t there for the display. We have been adding more jazz to our database though so maybe sometime in the future they can use the database and the info will be displayed.
Understood, thank you!
Hi Kenneth, we didn’t see McCoy Tyner on Dee’s show but John Hill played “Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit” by Tyner on the 23rd.
Hi WRCJ team—What way do you recommend setting up to be able to listen to WRCJ on the Amazon Echo/Alexa? Thanks.
Hi Tim, you can try asking for us by name or frequency. This page offers some more info: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-listen-to-the-radio-on-your-amazon-echo
Hope the new “listen live” web app is going away soon. I miss being able to backup and catch the announcers comments about a piece on the previous version.
Love the music mix and particularity that it is just not the best hits of Beethoven and Mozart.
Hi Gary, My apologies – we were having some issues with the popup on certain browsers. But I’ve added it back into this page – see the link at the bottom. Or you can click here – Open the PopUp Player!
I have a Logitech Smart Radio (Internet). It can not locate the link as posted.
Do you have a solution for me?
I’m guessing most of these internet radio devices use TuneIn?
The URL is http://tun.in/seqtq.
Grace Internet Radio needs this URL – http://66.55.143.200/stream/wrcjfm.pls?mp=/stream
