Hey I heard something on Pipedreams today (Feb. 3) I really enjoyed the pieces around the time of 2:15 I want to say? Two organ pieces by someone named Daniel gottfried I thought I had heard. I was focused on driving and missed the name of the pieces/composer. Thank you
Hi Matt, was it Daniel Gawthrop? Here is the playlist for that program: http://pipedreams.publicradio.org/listings/2019/1904/
Feb 2, at approximately 2:19 or so, you played an absolutely beautiful string piece. Could I please have the name of it? It just played. Thank you.
Hello Evelynn, that sounds like “Rounds for String Orchestra” by composer David Diamond performed by the do.gma chamber orchestra, conducted by Mikhail Gurewitsch.
January first, 2019 8:28 a.m. Just finished hearing a Hebrew piece by Cellos of City of Birmingham Orchestra, please repeat the name of composition here? Thank you and happy new year to all!
Hello Roberta, that was Josef Hadar’s “An Evening Fragrant with Roses (Erev Shel Shoshanim)”. Happy New Year!
What song wrapped up the classical programming on Monday, January 14 at 6:55 PM?
Hello Tami, that was “Metamorphosis II” composed by Philip Glass. It was performed by Anne Akiko Meyers on violin and Akira Eguchi on piano from Anne’s cd “Mirror In Mirror”. We hope you liked it.
Can someone tell me who the musicians playing around 7:50 est Saturday December 22, 2018. It was a jazz version of a Christmas song.
Hello Cedric, about that time we played Marian Mcpartland on the piano playing “God Rest Ye Gentleman” followed by “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” by Donald Walden on saxophone leading his band including Marcus Belgrave on trumpet.
The gentleman on air today twice mentioned ‘European’ classical.’ This seems contrary to our understanding of my 20 Nov. comment. I had thought that classical music came from just about anywhere?
Donald O’Neil
Hello Donald, yes classical music is composed and performed all over the world. Our host was probably just referring to a piece that was specifically from somewhere in Europe.
I am happy to hear the diversity of period, composers and origins continue during the well tempered program. Not only is that refreshing but it encourages young listeners what possibilities in music are.
Donald O’Neil
Thank you Donald, that is what we aim for. A little something for everyone.
There was a beautiful choral arrangement sung yesterday morning about 11:35 of “Down by the River” or a similar title. What was the piece, who was the arranger, and what group performed this lovely number? I would love to hear more of similar selections! Thanks.
Hello Mari, was it “Shall We Gather at the River”? That was composed by Robert Lowry performed by the Minnesota Choral Artists, featuring alto Lynette Johnson, conducted by Matthew Culloton.
That was it! Many thanks.
Was listening on the fly between, 1PM & 2:00PM on Thursday 08/30 , and you were interviewing a Lady Violinist who had just released a new CD. The music was quite moving and beautiful.Should have stopped and made note of at least her name. Can’t get it out of my mind. Please let me know who she is and the name of the CD. It is a must have. Thanks
Hi Greg, yes that was Anne Akiko Meyers and she has a new CD called “Mirror In Mirror”. Here is the interview in case you need it: https://soundcloud.com/wrcj909fmhd1/anne-akiko-meyers-august-30-2018
Enjoy!
