Hi beautiful listener, we didn’t see that song on the playlist but maybe it was a brief riff during another song. If you go to this link and scroll down you can see the playlist: https://www.wrcjfm.org/jazzfest-detroit-with-john-penney/
Maybe something will stand out to you.

Hi Darlene, you’re probably talking about the song “A Sea Of Voices” by the jazz trio The Lost Melody from their album “New Songs For Old Souls”.

        Hi Eddie,

Thanks so much for listening to the “Swing Set” commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King. The man and his message must never be forgotten. He was affected by music and he in turn affected American music. FYI – the playlist for the “Swing Set” is always posted on this website on Monday. You can also email me: lyohn@dptv.org if you want it. I keep track of the playlists. Again, thank you for listening and loving good music.

Hello, I believe it was last week during the afternoon you played the piece “Smile” by Charlie Chaplain. The announcer said that Chaplain was a very good cello player. The music had some introductory stanzas before it got into the familiar “smile” tune and these same stanzas were repeated at the end of the piece. I’ve been trying to find that recording online but everything I’ve heard only has the “smile” melody without this extra tune at the beginning and end. I am wondering which particular recording you aired?

Love WRCJ music and all the supplemental information given about the music and composers. I learn something new everyday!

Hi Joy, we didn’t see it on the playlist recently but here are the versions of Smile we play: one by La Pieta with Angele Dubeau, one by John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra, one by Erich Kunzel and the Boston Pops Orchestra and one version for trombone and piano by Christian Lindberg and Per Lundberg. There’s also one with vocals and two jazz versions but it doesn’t sound like it’s those.

Hello, this morning 1/14/22 around 540-550am there was a beautiful piano piece that I think may have been Brahms, but was wondering if you could tell me what the piece/pieces were. Thank you!

Hi Nathan, you are correct, that was Brahms on Exploring Music this morning. Around that time was his folk song “Sonntag” (Sunday) performed by Anne Sofie von Otter.

On Saturday January 8, around 3:10 – 3: 25 with host Lynne Warfel I heard a beautiful piece with guitar, and I believe she mention it was a sound of a movie. I would love to know the name of that music and composer.

    Thank you

Hi Deborah, that was the 4th movement of the Saxophone Quartet by Philip Glass. It was performed by the sonic.art Saxophone Quartet. Here is what the CD looks like if you want to take a look: https://www.amazon.com/Works-Saxophone-Quartet-GLASS-NYMAN/dp/B005R48VV4

On Friday, September 10th, 2021 there was a jazz piece that ended just past 8pm (around 8:08 if memory serves), with what sounded like either foreign-language or non-language vocals, a male lead with a chorus. The vocalists held some very interesting chords. Sadly I never caught the name, any help would be appreciated. ♥

On 3 Sept 21 just before 11:00 PM I caught the tail end of a show with Ray Charles on I believe Maxology with Maxine Michaels (I was nodding off). It was followed by a very funny female jazz singer, breaking from her numbers with comic monolog about her man. I would love to know who this artist is.
