Hello. I was hoping to get the name of a jazz song played on Tuesday, the 10th of December 2019. It was one of the first songs after classical music had ended, so within the first 15 minutes. The singer was a woman and its lyrics were about Detroit: “Detroit is doin’ just fine” and “Detroit is goin’ fast.” I am almost certain those are verbatim, but I could be wrong. Shazam and Siri could not identify it and I could not bring up the song on Google when I searched for it either. Please help!
Much Appreciated,
Patrick D.
Hello Patrick, that was Alma Smith doing “Movin’ Along” from her album “Dreamin'”.
Hi
What was playing today around 12:34-12:36ish?
Sounded like a mix between sufjan stevens and elliott smith. singe male vocals but doubled.
Was beautiful.
TIA
Hello Erin, around that time we played a selection from the opera La finta semplice by Mozart. It’s from a big cd set on the L’Oiseau-Lyre label, spine number 452496. It featured the Academy of Ancient Music conducted by Christopher Hogwood.
What was playing 11/8 at about 8:10 am right after the news break? Awesome and invigorating! Thank you!
Hello Jake, looks like it was Slavonic Dance In A Flat Op46 #3 by Dvorak performed by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Rafael Kubelik.
Dear Worker B,
What version of Willow Weep for Me, was playing on 11/14/19 at approximately 7:14.
Thanks so much for your time!
Hello Diane, “Willow Weep For Me” was by Houston Person from the album “I’m Just A Lucky So And So”.

Thank you so much for the great music! I was listening last night at 2:25 and there was a very killin piece on Dee Alexander’s segment with Alto, Trombone, Guitar, Organ, Bass and Drums. I believe the bass player was Clark Summers but I may be wrong. I was wondering where I could find that track, I fell in love with it and would love to study it more. Thanks again, appreciate all you do for Classical and Jazz music here in Detroit!
Hello Joseph, thanks for listening! That was “By a Thread” by Clark Sommers from his album of the same name on the Ears and Eyes Records label.
Hello, I was listening this Friday morning 23AUG2019 at 7:40 to a piece “originally for piano, transcribed for guitar”. Can you please reply with the song/artist? Thanks!
Hello Philip, that sounds like “Majorca” composed by Isaac Albeniz (transcribed for guitar). It was from an album called CBS Masterworks Dinner Classics – A Taste Of Spain. It was performed by John Williams.
Hello I was listening to something called Yaktchi but I can’t find it anywhere. What’s the song or artist? It was a southern jazz song. At 5:20pm. Thank you!
Hello Scott, that was the group Uakti (pronounced “wah-ke-chee”) performing a piece by Philip Glass called “Rio Negro” from a cd called Aguas Da Amazonia.
Hey there!
I heard a piece this evening and I didn’t catch the name or artist. It was around 7:04 pm and sounded like live jazz. The performer said, “This is how I think Bach would do it” Followed by, “This is how I think Ray Charles would do it”. Could you help me out with the title and artist?
Thanks so much, I love this station!
Hello Gabrielle, that was Billy Preston’s Summertime. Thank you for listening!
I listen mornings and evenings. And in the daytime too. I have been missing C Sharp a lot. When will we hear her again?
-Lyn in Rochester
Hello Lyn, she has other obligations that keep her pretty busy but we try to have her substitute host whenever possible. She will be back. Thanks for listening all the time!
Hello,
Don’t know if I’m in the right area here, but I heard some great jazz from about 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm Thursday June 13. Can’t seem to locate the playlist. Can you help?
Hello Don, yes that wasn’t our usual programming. We had a technical glitch so while our engineer worked on it, our skeleton crew played a few things manually. They didn’t write down the track names unfortunately… Normally though you can find our weeknight jazz playlist here: https://radionetwork.wfmt.com/programs/jazz-network/#gallery-image/0
While listening the your station on May 25th i heard a fantastic song that I have been unable to figure out what it is. It was played at 9:09pm on May 25, 2019. I am hoping someone can look back and tell me the name of the song and the artist. Please and thank you in advance.
Hello Greg, we had another listener ask about that one as well. Around that time was “Groovin’ High” by the Keith Jarrett Trio from the album “Whisper Not Live in Paris 1999”.
Hello
You guys played a piece by Dmitri Shostakovich this week, I believe it was either Wednesday or Thursday. I didn’t get a chance to write down the name of the piece. Could you let me know what it was?
Hello Aaron, on Wednesday at 4:40pm we played Dmitri Shostakovich’s “The Second Waltz” (arranged by Andre Rieu) with Johann Strauss Orchestra and Andre Rieu on a DECCA disc, spine number: B0027355. On Thursday at 3:44pm we played his Symphony No. 10 in e, Op. 93 (2nd movement) with Bernard Haitink and the London Philharmonic Orchestra on a DECCA disc: 4757413. The best show is Lynn Warfull’s Saturday Cinema. Saturday mornings are usually brunch for us and we enjoy that hour. We enjoy the Saturday line up but have to give the edge to her. Today was the top 12 film scores of the American Film Industry. We missed the beginning of the show. Is there a way to see the recap of the list she played? Thanks!
