Hello! May I please have the actual name of the Sibelius piece for Flute and Chorus that was played today? Under the Winter Sky? Snow? I was driving and distracted and missed the whole title. I think it was between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. this morning. I believe Ms. Taylor said that, “if you were from Finland, you knew the tune…”, or something like that? Thanks. Gorgeous stuff!

WorkerB

January 22, 202622:16:45

Hi Jon, that one was actually by Harri Wessman, it’s called Water Under Snow is Weary. The recording was by The Tapiola Choir. Glad you liked it!

Michael from Massachusetts

Kudos to the programming team , combining these two together this morning:

“Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis” by Ralph Vaughan Williams,
which was immediately preceded by “Spem in alium…” by Thomas Tallis, himself.

Very nice!

WorkerB

Thank you Michael. Yes Christa does a good job creating the daily playlists. We are glad to have her with us.

Leslie Walker

December 15, 202516:56:24

I believe you played a brass composition on Dec 15 arranged by Morley Calvert. If that is so he was a wonderful man and a wonderful teacher. Love WRCJ. Keep offering this wonderful programming. Music for the soul.

WorkerB

December 17, 202520:48:56

It’s nice to hear you are enjoying the music. Thank you Leslie!

I miss Haley. She was probably off Thursday in preparation for doing interviews with the DSO live broadcast of today. Have a nice weekend. Look forward to your return on Monday.

Good morning and thanks for being on the air. I would have loved to get a couple of the CDs like the Soundtrack but have no devices to play CDs anymore! 🙂

WorkerB

October 21, 202522:32:06

Yes its sad you can’t find CD players as easily these days. Ok, something to consider for next time.

Hi – caught the show in the car yesterday (I love tuning in when I can) and just purchased the Sir Oliver Goosens piece you featured. Wanted to let you know that you sold a record 🙂

WorkerB

August 29, 202517:21:49

Hi Stew, it’s nice to hear you liked that one so much you had to buy it. Thanks for listening!

Sydney Campbell

August 6, 202515:34:34

Love this quartet! In middle school we won the string quartet competition with this piece because we really used our dynamics! 😂. Our quartet stayed together past high school graduation.

WorkerB

August 7, 202501:11:59

Hi Sydney, good for you! A clever use of this piece. Hopefully the recording we have did it justice.

June Kawabe

Hi June, that one was with Hilary Hahn and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

The Seasons: Spring & Summer is a perfect choice to listen to on a sunny but not too hot day like today! Loved the selection today <3

WorkerB

Oh a workshop, models and a nice library, sounds like an interesting place!

Paul

May 29, 202518:00:35

That Dennis Brain Mozart Horn concerto with the Philharmonia and Von Karajan eh? I barely know the difference between a concerto and a sonata. But I think anyone can listen to that after hearing ten other performances of the piece and know Dennis Brain was utterly the best of the best. I was out of the room and came back two minutes in and knew immediately who the soloist was.

I have an LP recording which includes reminiscences of some people who worked with him who more than a decade after he died in a car accident. They spoke emotionally, reverently about his artistry.

Nice – thanks.

WorkerB

May 30, 202504:02:26

Hi Paul, yes Dennis was exceptional. Apparently he came from a family of musicians. It’s pretty cool you have that special LP. Thanks for listening!

William Sturm

May 15, 202502:51:48

What song played today (May 04) just before Bach’s Lunch? It sounded like a Beatles tune, but I could not come up with the name.

WorkerB

May 16, 202508:04:51

Hi William, yes that was “Here, There and Everywhere” performed by the group Les Boreades. Thanks for listening.

WorkerB

March 26, 202522:30:44

Oh good another Haley has joined us!
It must be very interesting for your daughter to work at the zoo. Hopefully the animals are nice to her.

Lucy Corey

March 20, 202523:14:44

Thank you, Haley, for your distinctive choices in music. I love hearing lesser known compositions by well-known composers, as well as wonderful music by unknowns. I often turn on the radio in the middle of something great, and want to write down the composers and work, and even the orchestra!! Please, repeat this information after each piece of music. This may seem boring to you, but it has been very important to me, as I listen to interpretations closely. Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for your show!

Bill Collins

March 18, 202516:01:30

Wow! That piano piece by the Ethiopian composer. Great!

WorkerB

March 6, 202520:15:39

What was the guitar piece played 2-17-25 at about 11AM?

WorkerB

Hello Jay, around that time we played Canzone in e (arranged for 2 guitars) composed by Bernardo Pasquini performed by Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya on guitar.

Richard O'Donnell

January 8, 202518:02:25

Hello, Haley. I am a long-time listener and financial supporter who relocated to the west coast of the state (St. Joseph) in June of last year. I wanted to tell you that you have brought a lovely third dimension to the on-air talent at WRCJ. We already were addicted to the humor and humanity of Peter and Dr. Dave, but you just add so well to the mix. Thank you for doing what you do. (The music’s pretty darned great too!)

WorkerB

January 9, 202504:37:20

Thank you Richard, it’s nice to hear you’re enjoying the show. We’ll pass your message along to Haley.

July 26, 202402:03:24

Uplifting story… I was sitting at a metro Detroit intersection with my car windows down this week listening to Bach’s Lunch. Next thing I know, the person in the next car over was calling over to me. They wanted to know what station I was listening to and that they liked classical music. I told them 90.9 FM and Bach’s Lunch and they switched their station and thanked me. Hopefully, we have a new long term listener!

WorkerB

July 26, 202414:07:51

Wow, thanks for spreading the word! Yes, hopefully a happy new member of the 90.9 WRCJ family.

April 26, 202420:01:23

Another great Bach piece today around 12:30 featuring the piano or maybe a Clavichord. Can you tell me what it was?

WorkerB

April 28, 202406:09:49

Hi William, that would either have been the first movement of the Brandenburg Concerto #2 performed by the English Chamber Orchestra with Ian Watson on harpsichord under the direction of Anthony Newman or
the Partita #1, BWV 825 performed by Charles Owen on piano.

William Sturm

April 22, 202416:35:23

That Bach violin sonata was beautiful today. What was the piece called and who was the violinist? Thanks!

WorkerB

April 23, 202404:39:56

Hi, that was Violin Concerto No.1 In a BWV1041: II. Andante performed by Joshua Bell on violin with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

April 10, 202416:57:40

What orchestra performed “Venus” from The Planets on Friday? I also would like to know the name of the piece which followed that.
Thanks,
Paul

WorkerB

Hi Paul, Venus was performed by the BBC Philharmonic under the direction of Sir Andrew Davis. The piece after that was “Three Japanese Pictures” by Billy Mayerl.

Phil Jackson (not the basket ball coach :)

November 13, 202316:51:34

Hi WRCJ,
Your new website looks great. However, for the past few days the display has shown “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba” by Handel as being played, continuously. This is also shown when we view what’s playing on our car’s radio. The actual music played, and announcers, all sound AOK.

WorkerB

November 14, 202306:04:58

Hi Phil, sorry about that, we are in the process of replacing the music database computer in the main studio which may have caused problems with the title display. We are working on it right now.

Elissa Bluth

September 12, 202301:46:30

You played something I think on that day that was supposed to be a modern piece using instruments from brandenberg concerto it was from around 1911. I thought it was sibelius but I can’t find it, any clue?

WorkerB

September 12, 202302:39:55

Hi Elissa, we did play a piece by Sibelius on Midday Music Monday. It was The Tempest: Suite No. 2, Op. 109, No. 3. Was that the one you were looking for?

Gayle Turner

July 26, 202316:33:32

I have spent too much time looking for I thing on your playlist and I cannot find it. I think it was July 18 (could have been the 17th or 19th) around 2pm, a piece by Franz Schubert. He is my love and I really want to know what was played. Thanks! Gayle

WorkerB

July 27, 202312:14:45

Hi Gayle, a little before that on the 18th we played Schubert’s “Symphony No 8 in b, D 759 “Unfinished”: I Allegro moderato”. Was it that one?

Cathy Franklin

July 17, 202314:27:48

Oh man, thanks for the Gorecki. Haven’t heard it in quite awhile. So lovely.

WorkerB

July 17, 202316:06:22

You’re welcome Cathy. We try to sprinkle in some lesser known gems too.
